Unsolicited Perspectives

About The Guest(s):

Bruce Anthony and J. Aundrea are siblings who host a podcast together.

Summary: Bruce and J. Aundrea discuss the launch of their new logo and merchandise store. They then talk about the recent case of Carly Russell, a woman in Alabama who claimed to have been abducted and later returned home. Bruce and J. Aundrea express their concerns about the quickness with which the police department cast doubt on Carly's story and the media's need to generate controversy for clicks. They also delve into the difference between respect and obedience, and how parenting styles have evolved over the generations.

Key Takeaways:

  • Carly Russell's case highlights the need for a fair and unbiased investigation before casting doubt on someone's story.
  • The media's need for controversy and clicks often leads to the misrepresentation of facts and the perpetuation of harmful narratives.
  • Age does not automatically guarantee respect, and it is important to teach children to question and think critically.

Quotes:

  • "The story to me is how quickly the police department is willing to put out there that they don't believe her story." - Bruce Anthony
  • "Respect is different than obedience. Age does not guarantee respect." - J. Aundrea

But first things first.

00:52.30
Bruce Anthony
What else says you know I can't call it just chilling. That's our. That's our little slogan. That's our little love. We are launched ah, the new logo was launched yesterday on all of social media sites and and all that stuff.

00:53.71
J. Aundrea
Um, but a brother. He.

01:02.18
J. Aundrea
He Yes, it is so cool I like the new logo a lot.

01:08.30
Bruce Anthony
I like it to I I I like it I like it I like the logo the transparency logo I should have had it be on air in the background because the transparency logo is basically what you're gonna be using for all your merch I can't put.

01:12.81
J. Aundrea
And care.

01:27.78
Bruce Anthony
Main show background because it has the background which is the setup of my studio because it's gonna be like this like if there's a white shirt. It's just big square in the middle I guess it could work but I don't know.

01:34.99
J. Aundrea
Um, yeah.

01:41.72
J. Aundrea
I don't at well the on air logo that wasn't exactly an original mockup he made correct.

01:52.87
Bruce Anthony
Ah, there which mean they're original.

01:55.60
J. Aundrea
Like did he pull that from somewhere or did he write did he draw that up himself.

02:00.69
Bruce Anthony
No, you said you said the exact same I said the the exact vector file I said use this This is perfect and no I said use this I mean I guess I could put it on a transparency logo.

02:08.77
J. Aundrea
Oh okay.

02:17.63
J. Aundrea
I Don't think you need it I like the transparency logo as is I think it just made I think it just adds another thing and you don't need a thing especially if you got it on a sweatshirt. We're gonna have words on a sweatshirt. It's I think this.

02:19.45
Bruce Anthony
I.

02:28.97
Bruce Anthony
What the words the words are gonna be on the back. The t-shirt the words on is on the on the t-shirt that we're gonna do and sweatshirts I'm not even gonna make the sweatshirts now as high as it is the last fifteen days been the hottest fifteen days and in 15 day history.

02:36.27
J. Aundrea
Is on the back.

02:46.70
J. Aundrea
Um, yes, yes, right.

02:48.85
Bruce Anthony
So ain't no buy buying no sweaters right? Don't even need to I don't even need to do the mockups for those this is gonna be some t-shirts and a short set some draws and some socks. Yeah, some draws and some socks.

03:00.22
J. Aundrea
Yeah, so so draws us some socks. But yeah.

03:06.50
Bruce Anthony
But their merch store I Want to say that I want to officially launch it on the first. Um, um I'm designing the shirts now and I I don't I don't know what I'm doing so just give me a little time and stuff the the the.

03:09.28
J. Aundrea
Okay, okay. Well it just it just needs to really be the logo and stuff first like we can get into other t-shirt designs later I think just the inaugural shirts just need just put the logo on air.

03:23.10
Bruce Anthony
Yeah, yeah.

03:29.37
Bruce Anthony
And just leave it like that. Yeah you write you write, but put the words on the back.

03:32.90
J. Aundrea
And get it get and just get it out there. Yes.

03:38.47
J. Aundrea
You can? Yes, Yeah, yeah, yeah.

03:38.81
Bruce Anthony
Yeah, you know I'm just just the first one welcome First of all welcome. What's the grammar that should go with that. Should it be welcome exclamation point first of all comma welcome exclamation point.

03:55.26
J. Aundrea
No, that no I mean yeah but I would write it colloquially like I would write it the way that it's said that just I just defined it after I said it I would write it the way that it's the way that it's said.

03:56.19
Bruce Anthony
Because that's proper sentence structure.

04:02.68
Bruce Anthony
I don't I don't know what that word I've heard that word before I about how I can't even sell say quote Colloqui la.

04:13.91
J. Aundrea
Writing the way you speak is writing colloquially.

04:20.25
Bruce Anthony
Colloquiate I can it was close. Ah I was talking with a friend of mine earlier today and I'm not gonna portray his confidence but we were talking about a particular particular subject and he dmed me a meme later on that day that was pertaining to that subject.

04:21.89
J. Aundrea
That's that's actually close. That's pretty close. Yeah.

04:38.90
J. Aundrea
M.

04:39.63
Bruce Anthony
And I said to him I was like yeah that was Apropos what you sent to me and he was like I don't understand what that means what does that mean and he was I was like Apropos like appropriate in his like I never heard that word before I was like you're a college educated person. You never, you've never heard that word before.

04:47.30
J. Aundrea
Um, is.

04:51.70
J. Aundrea
Yeah.

04:58.24
J. Aundrea
Um, you the what was again. There's like a built in spell check on your phone.

04:59.39
Bruce Anthony
And he was like well how do you spell it I wouldn't look it up and I was like oh I don't know how to spell it. Yes's like I know how to say it. But I don't i't know how to set so I said in this series. Yeah I said and yeah I said in Syria and she she understood what I was trying to say but he.

05:14.78
J. Aundrea
Yeah.

05:17.98
Bruce Anthony
He did a funny joke. He said he was like I said yes Apropos he said iin. No damn Ho house like art. That's yeah, that's that's that's funny, but but you know how I said it was funny I said it that way I was like okay that's funny.

05:27.66
J. Aundrea
That's that's funny. That's funny, but let's be adults here.

05:36.35
J. Aundrea
Is is.

05:37.46
Bruce Anthony
I Think when people do that when people say that's funny instead of cracking up sometimes that that means that it's actually funnier than when something makes you crack up sometimes because you understand the intelligence and that humor not saying that that was like.

05:49.00
J. Aundrea
Yeah.

05:55.33
Bruce Anthony
Super intelligent but it was just like it was clever. It was clever. Ah, it was apropos. Okay, yes.

05:55.94
J. Aundrea
It wasn't yeah I don't know that it was that clever I just think it was you know some so some comical word play but I don't know that it was. All that I know how I get I get I get it I get it. Yeah I mean I'm not in the streets I'm be honest with you. It's hot I want to go get the mail and almost melted so I just said I'm not in the streets and not for me this summer not this summer.

06:15.14
Bruce Anthony
Ah, wells enough about Me. What's up but you how are you doing I here in these streets because his no no. Not that's you can catch me in the streets in the fall.

06:31.79
J. Aundrea
You know what I might be in the streets this fall you might catch me in the streets in November yeah, you can catch me in the streets in the fall and a nice layered you know, sweater set and some boots.

06:44.20
Bruce Anthony
This.

06:49.61
J. Aundrea
That's where you can catch me in the streets cause ain't no in the hell.

06:49.93
Bruce Anthony
What that's like you know we talked about this I forget which episode it was I think it was probably on the after hours episode but I had my birthday party last week and the whole intention was to have it on a rooftop and you know have a good time and one of my friends was like you want to do it where.

07:09.63
J. Aundrea
Yeah, yeah.

07:09.71
Bruce Anthony
On the rooftop. Are you sure about that. That's like yeah you know I love a rooftop at this place I love it. We couldn't get the rooftop because the owner had it booked over because he was thrown his own party so we was downstairs in the patio and when I tell you I was sweating profusely immediately. and and and I was like man the hell with this. Let's go inside and even still it took a long time to cool off inside I I was thinking that it it was like last summer and last summer we we was on top of the roof quickly.

07:26.58
J. Aundrea
Um, yeah, yeah I don't know what you were thinking you Weren. You weren't thinking about climate change listen the climate is changing. It's not.. It's not gonna be the same as it was last supper period. It's gonna be even hotter.

07:44.90
Bruce Anthony
To and next summer's gonna be hotter than this summer so I guess fall is now my season because I hate winter because it's cold spring I can't breathe or function because of the pollen I'm allergic to everything know.

07:54.31
J. Aundrea
Right? Yeah I don't know that anybody like spring for that particular reason.

08:04.87
Bruce Anthony
I Don't think a lot of people. There's some people that's not allergic like you and I that can actually breathe throughout their nose.

08:11.17
J. Aundrea
I feel like the level of pollen that's out now affects literally a hundred percent of people because there's so much of it. It's like a thick blanket you're walking through that keeps smacking you in the face.

08:18.89
Bruce Anthony
ah ah I know if it's a hundred percent it is and is.

08:28.47
J. Aundrea
So I think it affects honestly a hundred percent of people when to get that pick. Yeah yes, yes.

08:28.95
Bruce Anthony
Well, yeah, okay maybe but spring is no good. It'd be real thick. It'd be a pace. It be a pace people like I can't wait for it to rain to wash it away I'm like look let me tell you some when dust and water Mix. You know what? that is. That's mud. And it's enough Pollen. It's enough pollen out here to create mud everywhere You think it's mud from Dirt. No, that's pollen.

08:49.40
J. Aundrea
That's mug. Yes, that's pollen if it's yellow mud Guess what? that's pollen and you just got it all all your shoes.

09:05.22
Bruce Anthony
And then yeah so I guess Fall is the only will fall is actually since we out of school now Fall is my favorite time of year. Anyway, it.

09:05.41
J. Aundrea
You tracked it all in your house.

09:16.82
J. Aundrea
Yeah, yeah, it is really my favorite time of year I Got my favorite holidays are happening in the fall. Um, well just now just Thanksgiving and just just.

09:24.86
Bruce Anthony
Halloween okay is that still fall or is that winner.

09:31.66
J. Aundrea
I don't think winter to me winter starts in December but maybe that's just because in Atlanta I mean it just does not get cold until like January February but for me fall is September October November that's fall to me.

09:45.21
Bruce Anthony
Okay, all all right. We've been dilly daddling enough.

09:50.60
J. Aundrea
We have been dilly dally in I mean now I have to look up when is the wind is actual fall.

09:57.83
Bruce Anthony
Ah, but but you know the people have been asking me and there's like you gonna talk about this and I did.

10:03.66
J. Aundrea
Yes, so so September Twenty third to December Twenty First if anybody is wondering that is yeah December Twenty first that is autumn. Yeah Christmas is almost for almost.

10:08.19
Bruce Anthony
December Twenty first so Thanksgiving okay, all right? and that's almost Christmas Christmas is almost a fall holiday almost almost all right? Let's get to Carly Russell yeah they like.

10:24.33
J. Aundrea
People been asking you about this about your opinion on it.

10:28.29
Bruce Anthony
About my opinion. So if you don't know who Carly Russell is Carly Russell is the young woman in Alabama that disappeared between January thirteenth to January Fifteenth um yeah excuse me Joe I've been saying July I've been saying January for July a lot I don't know why but I've been doing it.

10:36.61
J. Aundrea
Um, july.

10:44.43
J. Aundrea
I Don't know why either in this room.

10:47.42
Bruce Anthony
Ah, 43 this is what happens when you get old anyway, um July thirteenth and to July fifteenth she was missing what she basically said was is that ah she saw a baby. It was a baby in the road hey but hey baby so she saw a baby in the road. She called now on wife.

11:01.52
J. Aundrea
Um, a baby.

11:06.67
Bruce Anthony
Then she was abducted. She said that she was she claimed to be taken by a man who came out of the trees when she stopped to check on the child and then she was blindfolded and held at a home um with another woman and a child and basically that she escaped and got home on foot. And the hoover police chief Nick I'm going to butcher this like always butcher names darve the police chicken nick darvis is casting doubt on her statements. Um saying that he couldn't find anything about any baby or any abduction. And her phone reveals searches about Amber Alerts A movie about abduction called taken. Ah and a bus ticket to Nashville Tennessee departing the day of the disappearance. He also found internet searches before the kid navigating that were highly unusual and people out there were trying to get what my opinion would be.

11:53.84
J. Aundrea
Me.

12:04.65
Bruce Anthony
What is your opinion before I say my.

12:09.70
J. Aundrea
Um, I kind of want you to go first. Yeah.

12:09.64
Bruce Anthony
Okay, I'll go first. Could it be a juicy smooth lace situation. It could be and I'm not saying that it is or it isn't she could be lying. She could be telling the truth. That's not the story to me the story to me is how quickly.

12:16.49
J. Aundrea
Yes.

12:29.40
Bruce Anthony
How quickly this the police department is willing to put out there that they base a hint very strongly that they don't believe her story when there have been a lot of situations where women have faked abductions and they don't normally come out this quickly and I just wonder I Just wonder.

12:37.97
J. Aundrea
And.

12:49.33
Bruce Anthony
Why the police department would be so adamant to cast doubt upon her story she could be lying and I'm not disputing net I'm dispute I'm disputing the quickness of which this de police this police department is trying to dispute. Her story and it just you know I hate to do it to y'all folks. But I think race got a little something to play in this I think it does and it's not like women don't get abducted all the time. Hell they just finally arrested. Ah. The guy in long island that they think is a serial killer that's killed a lot of women in long island right? So women get abducted every day be every day so it's very well possible that this happened. But the fact that the police department is casting doubt so early. This is July twentieth she was she returned home July fifteenth today wasn't the day that they decided to cast doubt it was the eighteenth so and they haven't even interviewed her a second time.

13:57.90
J. Aundrea
Oh.

14:02.86
Bruce Anthony
Only did the initial interview and she's shaking up now could she be lying yes and the story sounds a little fishy. However, why do we give other people the benefit of a doubt but not some people. I'm just saying this was a little white woman. It'd be a long time before the police started cast and doubt. That's all so that's my take on all this might and my overall take because I kind of felt bad for the guy on long island and this is what I mean by that. I'm not saying I think he's innocent or guilty that that that is not the basis of my argument. It's how the media is portraying it. He's already portrayed as guilty if this man happens to be innocent doesn't matter how many retractions. Go on in the news. He will always be looked at as this serial killer and I think that the media need ah so many people are quick to get to the story that they don't journalism school one on one if you're a reporter to get all your facts first.

15:00.59
J. Aundrea
Is.

15:15.55
J. Aundrea
Right? same.

15:16.34
Bruce Anthony
How do I know this because I started out in Journalism at by was my first major right? There's a difference between a columnist and a reporter a columnist writes their opinions I'm a columnist I give opinions a reporter reports just the facts and leaves it alone.

15:28.75
J. Aundrea
Um.

15:34.62
Bruce Anthony
These people aren't out here getting all the facts before they report on these stories because there's a need to be first. So that's I don't care if she lied or she if she told the truth. There's a reason if she lied and there's a reason if she's telling the truth something happened but I don't care about that I care about the media and its need to to. Automatically produce innocence or guilt. Okay, that was my little two cents that lasted by 5 minutes so what do you think.

16:04.69
J. Aundrea
So the numbers are kind of all over the place but the end up lacy p reports that there are 64000 missing black women in this country. Um.

16:17.95
Bruce Anthony
Yeah.

16:21.67
J. Aundrea
Other reports show that it's closer to a 100000 missing um so when we hear ah and and mind you, you're not seeing them on the news every day you're not seeing these faces.

16:22.83
Bruce Anthony
Oh messa.

16:33.19
Bruce Anthony
A.

16:38.79
J. Aundrea
There are just families out there with no answers to where their loved one is so when you see someone like Carly Russell and I remember ah when.

16:43.18
Bruce Anthony
A.

16:56.68
J. Aundrea
Ah, my timeline was kind of just flooded with have you seen this person and ah you know just last week. So obviously I remember it. Yeah, it was just a week ago. Um, when you see.

17:01.37
Bruce Anthony
Literally just a week ago.

17:12.19
J. Aundrea
Someone like that and you see a community rallying around to kind of amplify this person and hope that they're found and then they are found Um, whatever whether she was lying or telling the truth.

17:29.63
J. Aundrea
I Don't what I want to take away from this is like we can't use that as a barometer for how we're going to judge all missing black women from now on What was the most discouraging thing to the about this to me is the number of.

17:41.24
Bruce Anthony
Ah.

17:47.87
J. Aundrea
Black people literally salivating over this the way that they were so into the juicy someu. Yeah, we never go for now say yeah, where they right ever at that.

17:59.62
Bruce Anthony
And now now we're never gonna do it I.

18:04.66
J. Aundrea
After somebody called him. Juicy, ah think it was day chappee. That's it. That's his name from now on but um, couldn't wait to say that something suspicious about this even before that press conference today about her search history.

18:07.65
Bruce Anthony
That vs his name.

18:24.18
J. Aundrea
Um, you know searching for things like do you have to pay for an Amber alert or um and searching for the movie taken which.

18:32.42
Bruce Anthony
And which by the way if I some ever happens to me and people look at my search history and just the random things I'd be searching I Really don't want to be judged on that.

18:45.33
J. Aundrea
Yeah I mean sometimes it literally in the middle of the night I'll be like what is this I just googled on air when is autumn. Yeah, okay, like ah.

18:55.40
Bruce Anthony
Writes rights. No no.

19:01.80
J. Aundrea
I Really don't want people looking through my search history I don't know I don't know that there was really a racial component so much as she came home safely or relatively safely.

19:12.83
Bruce Anthony
Relatively safely. Yeah.

19:17.17
J. Aundrea
And so instead of being able to put her face on a t-shirt and put make her name into a hashtag It was the gross reaction that people had to her coming back safely and I'm like isn't that what we were all hoping for.

19:33.41
Bruce Anthony
Near Regardless if it's true or not she's home safer right.

19:36.85
J. Aundrea
Regardless of the circumstances we still didn't know what where she was right? We still didn't know where she was. We didn't know this. We don't know the circumstances. We don't know where she was and. The whole point was that she get home safely regardless of what that means and so I would just encourage anybody who's like really been real weird about the fact that they don't believe her or it's suspicious I want.

19:57.10
Bruce Anthony
Ah.

20:12.42
J. Aundrea
I Want them to question why they seem so hype over the fact that you don't believe her.

20:19.40
Bruce Anthony
Yeah, because I had some friends of mine in a group chat and they sent us side by side some meme going around juicy smoothey and then Carly with Richardson I just had to name Russell Russell Richardson I mean she might be lying about that. We let me stop. Let me stop.

20:27.61
J. Aundrea
Um, yeah, Carly Russell um now

20:38.48
Bruce Anthony
But no and I was just like I didn't even respond to and I was like so here we go right? We'll be so quick you know and and and I got on this thing was like if she was white. Let me attack our people we are so quick sometimes to attack each other and and make a.

20:41.32
J. Aundrea
Yeah, yeah.

20:48.76
J. Aundrea
M.

20:58.20
Bruce Anthony
What's the wear I'm looking for. Did we just so quick to jump on each other and.

21:01.51
J. Aundrea
Yeah, especially attacking the credibility of black women in our community.

21:07.78
Bruce Anthony
Oh well, you've said it all often you know people don't like women in general women are not liked in general and black women are especially not liked. Ah, people don't like it when I say that it's true I Love women I think.

21:15.21
J. Aundrea
Yeah, um, yes.

21:23.81
Bruce Anthony
1 of my friends keeps bringing up the fact that I ain't seen Hidden figures or the lady king or any in them mother movies. But one day it's you and somebody else. It's it's you and somebody else calling me task and it was like why you you seeing Hidden figures yet I also haven't seen the banker.

21:25.18
J. Aundrea
Um, next.

21:30.52
J. Aundrea
Me I'm the friend. Okay, yeah.

21:43.73
Bruce Anthony
So I'm an equal opportunity. Don't want to see no movies. But but no, it's just like we attack ourselves and some stuff like I feel like need to be in-house and don't need to be out in public because that just gives fuel to the fire of people that are already trying to oppose us and then I'll get to in the next segment.

21:48.65
J. Aundrea
Um.

21:56.12
J. Aundrea
Um, yeah there.

22:03.57
Bruce Anthony
How they're trying to oppose this but I feel like we need to keep that dirty laundry in house if that's the way you feel we could. We can whisper it among ourselves but don't everybody got to know what we thinking.

22:08.39
J. Aundrea
Yeah,, but there are way too many. There were way too many tiktoks about she line and y'all you see this. She land y'all? Okay, Well what is what?? What's that Doing. What's that doing for you aside from generating Clicks What how is that? hope how is that helping the situation you could use that platform to amplify somebody who is missing.

22:29.80
Bruce Anthony
But you know what.

22:35.43
Bruce Anthony
That doesn't get Clicks Controversy gets clicks.

22:40.65
J. Aundrea
Okay, but then right, but then then then again, you have to ask yourself what kind of person am I.

22:47.45
Bruce Anthony
Yes, so one of my friends brought it up to me and no knock to this podcast I listened to this podcast. Um, and one of my friends brought up to me is like I need you to kind of I like I like your podcast but I like Joe button. And like Joe button has a very popular podcast. Absolutely I can understand why you would like Joe button but I was like what what's wrong with my podcast. You don't be talking about anything. Juicy I was like I don't I I guess I just talk about intellectual juicy.

23:03.24
J. Aundrea
No.

23:16.92
Bruce Anthony
And not messy. Juicy, which by the way I do talk about messy juicy as well. Just not as much as Joe ah, ah Joe button and I ah no because um I because I don't care about that stuff I don't care.

23:23.76
J. Aundrea
I would say we're not a real pop culture when this not a pop culture podcast the if if you looking for the shade room you you on the wrong podcast because a one I don't know.

23:36.39
Bruce Anthony
About that? Yeah, now that's the I what.

23:43.27
J. Aundrea
Any of those people I don't know any of those people you you asked? John who's blue face I think you I think you talk about the blue man group it I literally don't know I don't know if he's an athlete or okay.

23:48.15
Bruce Anthony
Well I do know who blue face is hit to get.

23:59.72
Bruce Anthony
He's a rapper. He's a rapper. Yeah yeah, but like yeah, that's that's the key. Don't care. We talk about stuff that we actually that we actually deem is important and other people actually.

24:03.13
J. Aundrea
I mean okay I don't know and I don't care so I don't care.

24:15.21
Bruce Anthony
Enjoy it. So this is how this how I'm gonna run this podcast the network will there be will there be a podcast one day where it just it'll be like some shave room I guess maybe but it's down the line I like talking about semi serious stuff and serious stuff. But what is your final.

24:15.45
J. Aundrea
Me yeah.

24:26.70
J. Aundrea
Maybe.

24:31.82
J. Aundrea
Lo.

24:34.21
Bruce Anthony
Do you have any other final words to stay about Carly.

24:38.20
J. Aundrea
Um, I'm I'm glad that she's home I don't whatever you know ends up becoming of this story because again um, is still in the early stages of the investigation. Alllthough we know right now is that she googled some stuff. Um.

24:39.90
Bruce Anthony
Yeah, yeah.

24:53.23
Bruce Anthony
That's it. That's all we know? Um, and.

24:55.31
J. Aundrea
That's all we know we still don't know where this young woman was um and apparently she came home in a state according to her parents in ah in a bad state so they can't talk about it because the investigation is still ongoing so whatever happened I'm.

25:01.70
Bruce Anthony
Right.

25:08.80
Bruce Anthony
But they can't talk about who can't who can't talk about it because whether the cops sure are talking about what they don't believe happened this year are hint about that and that was my issue. That's my issue like.

25:14.90
J. Aundrea
Her Her parents are not talking about it.

25:19.80
J. Aundrea
Right? Yeah yeah.

25:26.15
Bruce Anthony
It's it's really soon to be if if you have doubt cool but it's really soon to be putting that out in the media and then it was something like she had a hundred dollars in her pocket and her her boss was like if she stolen I'm a press charges and I'm just like oh women. What makes you think that she stole it from you like.

25:30.85
J. Aundrea
Yeah.

25:41.46
J. Aundrea
Because I she googled how to take something from a register without getting caught.

25:45.75
Bruce Anthony
Guess what there is no way to take something from a register without getting caught because there's records in the back and they know what's been rung up and and what's missing so that that just that's what pissed me off. That's what pissed me off the media. The media pissed me off.

25:50.99
J. Aundrea
Now. Yes, yeah.

26:02.93
J. Aundrea
Yeah, yeah, but um I just don't I'm just happy that she's home and I'm not gonna let this the next person that comes up missing because there will be a next one. I'm still going to amplify that person the same way and I'll still be just as happy when that person comes back home because even ah, even if it is a hoax.

26:33.34
J. Aundrea
Okay, well there were real people on the other end of that that were worried about her. Um, she had 2 parents who were incredibly worried about her and we don't know what made her do something like this if it was some issues trying to get her. Boyfriend's attention or she's having a.

26:35.40
Bruce Anthony
There.

26:50.95
J. Aundrea
Mental Health crisis so we don't really know. Um the point is you don't know so just shut up like again. This is a situation where mine your business like mine your business like honestly I don't know how else to say that just mine your business.

26:55.92
Bruce Anthony
Don't know.

27:01.21
Bruce Anthony
Mind your business. Yeah yeah, and if it is a hoax that happens from time to time people make false statements that shouldn't take away from the.

27:20.46
Bruce Anthony
Overwhelming number of cases that absolutely are legitimate.

27:23.70
J. Aundrea
Absolutely.

27:32.59
Bruce Anthony
Ah, says now more now on to more serious stuff. Not that you know Carly wasn't serious. Yeah, that's serious and and I brought up the the racial component and I don't know if I'm right or wrong I'm just.

27:40.47
J. Aundrea
Black women getting abducted and serious to you.

27:49.78
Bruce Anthony
And and maybe I'm taking my own personal because I am black just like man they real quick to they real quick to discredit a black person but in this instance, they are discrediting black people. So the Florida board of education has a new standards for african-american history.

27:57.31
J. Aundrea
Bright.

28:07.92
Bruce Anthony
They approved new standards for african-american history that requires teaers to instruct that enslaved people when they say enslaved they talk about theslaved black people from slavery that was over 400 years but only ended like one hundred and sixty years ago it didn't

28:15.48
J. Aundrea
M.

28:23.20
J. Aundrea
Grab.

28:25.28
Bruce Anthony
Wasn't that long. Not even a hundred sixty years what it was like one hundred and forty years think about that it was one hundred and forty years we said 150 it was one hundred and forty years okay that to ah they require that teachers to instruct and enslave people develop skills.

28:30.77
J. Aundrea
You're right.

28:35.83
J. Aundrea
Ah.

28:41.90
Bruce Anthony
Which in some instances could be applied for their personal benefit. Let me repeat that ladies and gentlemen they're trying to say that slavery actually benefited black folks. The new academic standards have been criticized as a big step backward. And there's been overwhelming backlash from public against the new standards. This is one part of the education being pushed back in America just the most recent stores there's another story that happened this week

29:16.20
J. Aundrea
Oh.

29:20.38
Bruce Anthony
Tellahhisi Coates supported a teacher in South Carolina why did he support a teacher in South Carolina he attended a school board meeting in South Carolina to show support for a teacher who had a lesson about his book between the world and me stopped so she was teach. It. By the way this was an advanced english course. Okay, she was teaching a class based upon the book and the scott south carolina school district halted the lesson on Coats Memoir and coats appeared at the school board meeting to discuss the plan.

29:38.75
J. Aundrea
And.

29:55.45
Bruce Anthony
Ban but he he stayed silent. The controversy is because Mary Wood who is the high school teacher taught the lesson but it was stopped after students express feeling uncomfortable and ashamed to be Caucasian Caucasian is white ladies and gentlemen. Ah.

30:11.98
J. Aundrea
And.

30:14.43
Bruce Anthony
School officials were concerned that the lesson could violate a South Carolina budget rule banning teachings that label anyone as consciously or unconsciously racist based on their race and causing discomfort guilt and anguish based on race. So in 1 instance, they're saying white people shouldn't feel guilty but in another instance, they're saying well black people shouldn't feel guilty because y'all learn some skills. That's basically what they're saying in both instances and I just find it funny that they're trying to.

30:38.76
J. Aundrea
M.

30:51.82
J. Aundrea
Nora.

30:53.35
Bruce Anthony
They're trying to rewrite American history to placate white guilt which by the way I've said it before guilt is that arrow arrow on your moral compass If you feel guilty about something.

31:06.98
J. Aundrea
Well.

31:11.75
Bruce Anthony
Morally you think it's wrong and if you think it's wrong morally? Maybe you should give pause then that doesn't say that you should be like I feel bad about being white but you should definitely feel bad about what those people did and that's what the guilt is from. It's okay, that's fine I think that's healthy.

31:25.95
J. Aundrea
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

31:30.79
Bruce Anthony
That's how we learn how to not repeat history but by brandishing it away because people feel guilty all the while I was in honors english classes. 1 of either 1 or 2 other black people that during the month of February they would give us our little civil rights week. And we will watch eyes on the prize and then I would get asked. So Bruce what do you think what do I think that makes me feel real uncomfortable as the only black person in this white space. That's watching these black people being beat up on the screen and white people in the classroom just kind of looking away not paying attention. They don't care.

31:58.79
J. Aundrea
Right? right.

32:09.83
Bruce Anthony
They're indiff but I feel some type of way about it. You don't care about my feelings which by the way it needs to be taught. But if you don't care about my feelings. Why do you care about the next person feelings. Why are they worth more than I am so that's that's my little two cents go ahead and.

32:12.50
J. Aundrea
Um, no.

32:25.81
J. Aundrea
Well cousin. Well we know the best and the brightest aren't come out of Florida so hey you know college admission boards you know, just keep that on your radar because these kids are learning lies.

32:27.48
Bruce Anthony
Day again.

32:43.10
J. Aundrea
Um, do they think we didn't have farming West Africa I Find that very weird we learned ah nothing So I'm kind of concerned that they know very little about the world. Ah is it that surprising that they.

32:43.90
Bruce Anthony
2

33:01.16
J. Aundrea
Don't know that there were agrarian societies in Africa now that's not surprising to me at all. Ah, but definitely new farming before we got here. Um I don't know why you would pick so pick a people to kidnap and enslave.

33:03.85
Bruce Anthony
Not math.

33:21.80
J. Aundrea
Who didn't already have some knowledge of the job. So that's just seems dumb. Um, now we'd learned nothing except ah about racism. That's what we learned about we learned. Um, we learned that and we in turn.

33:33.52
Bruce Anthony
Well oppression, we learned about oppression racism came later. Yeah.

33:41.89
J. Aundrea
We learned about ah we learned about oppression and bigotry. Ah, and we learned that the United States is not a safe place for us. Um, and you're continuing to teach us that the united place United States is not a safe place for us. Because nobody is taking like you said into consideration. The fact that um, you are telling young black students in front of other races of students that there was something beneficial.

34:11.25
Bruce Anthony
A.

34:17.42
J. Aundrea
That they should take away some. There was some personal benefit ensla and enslavement. You don't think that that's not gonna have some kind of adverse effect on that black child hearing this it. No, they don't um because again.

34:28.94
Bruce Anthony
Oh they don't care about the black children. They only care about the white children.

34:37.37
J. Aundrea
This is not and I said this before about a lot of stuff that's going on right now with the supreme court decisions and and different ah other because Florida is not obviously not the only place doing this, you got South Carolina you know everybody has their own kind of.

34:51.26
Bruce Anthony
Knows the South Carolina here you know we I saw a core I want to hear what you had to say so hold that dog don't forget that thought but I just want to put this in I saw a correlation remember we talked about how they did a lot of the pro-life states.

34:55.21
J. Aundrea
Version across the south of these anti-woke legislation, but. No yeah.

35:13.28
Bruce Anthony
Support the death penalty so I looked at what states actually have the death penalty. It's literally every southern state except for Virginia and Maryland and every state out on on the from the southern line to the west.

35:24.31
J. Aundrea
And.

35:31.51
Bruce Anthony
Except for you know California and Oregon I believe and surprisingly Alaska didn't have the death penalty and of course Hawaii don't have the death penalty and and as far as the midwest concern like the Montanas. The idahos the da coldas they got them and in Ohio has it Ohio and Indiana because of course Indiana.

35:48.30
J. Aundrea
Then one left.

35:50.77
Bruce Anthony
But surprisingly if you look at the correlation between the states that are quote unquote peeling back CtrCRT right and the abortion rights. They also support the death penalty so we were right in that correlation of.

36:01.89
J. Aundrea
Ah.

36:07.53
J. Aundrea
When.

36:09.60
Bruce Anthony
They don't give a damn about life. They they care about control but continue on to what you're saying.

36:14.82
J. Aundrea
Yeah, so you're seeing it a lot. Um with all these different anti woke things they're trying. It's not about the disenfranchisement of black people. It is about. Like I've said before the um, it's about supporting white supremacy. It's because you see it that they only care about the feelings of the white children.

36:49.22
Bruce Anthony
Um, if.

36:49.79
J. Aundrea
No one is asking the black children or the or children of any other race because it's not just gonna be us. It's not just gonna be us. It starts. It's starting with us. But you're going to see changes to.

36:56.75
Bruce Anthony
Here.

37:06.23
J. Aundrea
Latin and Hispanic history. You're gonna see changes to indigenous American history. You're gonna see changes to Asian American history.

37:09.80
Bruce Anthony
We'll see I I there's I would say that we weren't the first there were the first group that was attached attack as far as diluting our history. Yeah, it it was. It's it's them big look hey look doesn't look. Um I don't.

37:17.82
J. Aundrea
You know it's probably an it is probably indigenous in americans.

37:27.51
Bruce Anthony
Like to compare Traumas I won't there to me some of the greatest atrocities have been What's been done to the indigenous folks of this of this land black folks and Jewish folks. There is no comparison to the tragedies. They are all horrible.

37:28.69
J. Aundrea
Right.

37:40.83
J. Aundrea
M.

37:47.25
Bruce Anthony
But I tell you what does not get spoken about a lot especially in this country is what happened to the dangerous folks because look this is the 1 thing I will say I see us walking around I see black folks walking around I see on the americans walking around.

37:48.17
J. Aundrea
Dwen.

38:04.28
J. Aundrea
Um, yeah, they're here. They're here and they want you to know that they are still here. Yes, yeah.

38:06.85
Bruce Anthony
I mean when you get, they're here in pockets and pockets. Yeah, but they in pockets right? Like if you're in certain areas in this country. Yes, but just by like you could see a black person just about anywhere in this country even in Montana.

38:23.98
J. Aundrea
Yeah, we ever we out here. Yeah, as much as they hate that we are In fact out here. Yes, and our children will still be taught our history.

38:26.75
Bruce Anthony
You mean we out here but that's all the yeah yeah we out here. We ain't going nowhere. We're not going nowhere.

38:42.90
Bruce Anthony
Hopefully hopefully but okay, maybe.

38:43.35
J. Aundrea
In the home in the home. The reason a lot of the reason why we know ah the facts about our history in the home is because we had grandparents and great grandparents who actually lived through it.

38:59.10
Bruce Anthony
Ok, but but I but okay so I'm of that generation where we didn't There was.

39:01.54
J. Aundrea
And could tell you you know I was there when Dr King you know you hey we actually have people in the home who live through these things.

39:14.69
Bruce Anthony
Ah, time where it wasn't as explicit as it is now there was a time where racism was wasn't underground. It still came out in a lot of ways. But you know I have some friends who's just that are just like I have experience. No racism I'm like what yes you have. I was there when you experienced racism I was there when you got accepted into a major university ah a more academically ah prestigious university over the University Of Maryland which by the way is a prestigious academic university. Yeah.

39:33.72
J. Aundrea
Yeah, yeah.

39:48.51
J. Aundrea
It's a public. It's a public Ivy So just putting that out there.

39:50.54
Bruce Anthony
Ah I was there when my friend got into a prestigious academic school and all of our white classmates were like how did you get into school and this ity I'm not gonna tell you what he was saying but I had to pull him aside and be like yo stop saying this? we're in Calculus class together. You actually do your homework.

40:05.57
J. Aundrea
M.

40:08.70
Bruce Anthony
Not only that you was a sports star you played in the band you had extracurricular activities and YourSAT scores were good. Guess what? you're smarter than them. That's the reason why you got in? Um, but but there are some people of of my generation.

40:17.80
J. Aundrea
Yes.

40:24.58
Bruce Anthony
Just show you harvard experience that we know who they are because they're the Tim Scotts of the world. That's my generation whether I want to emit it or not. It's he only slightly older than me slightly. so so I worry I worry.

40:30.53
J. Aundrea
Um, um, yeah, yeah, not that not yeah, not that much. Ah.

40:42.47
Bruce Anthony
Like if I ever had kids. Of course they would know the history I'm a Historian but not everybody is an Historian not everybody looks out to learn more and more about history even though they get older some people their history is what they learned in school and in college unless you're taking history of courses.

40:44.96
J. Aundrea
Yeah.

40:59.81
Bruce Anthony
You're not. There's no history electives that you have to take history is pretty much over if you wanted to be in high school.

41:05.30
J. Aundrea
I think we need to just divest from Florida we're already starting. We're already starting like Latinos Pieced Florida out on mass. So.

41:17.90
Bruce Anthony
No, they didn't what are you talking about the cuban population in Florida.

41:23.30
J. Aundrea
No, no, no, no, no, no, no no I'm talking about the migrant workers and hotel workers and construction workers and everybody saying we don't have to work here. We can leave um and I'm talking about.

41:25.15
Bruce Anthony
Okay.

41:31.97
Bruce Anthony
Right.

41:39.59
J. Aundrea
A lot of black conventions that were I think the um black engine black engineers convention which would have been like 15000 people pulled out of Florida um, people are pulling out I mean there's.

41:47.31
Bruce Anthony
It? Okay, what we really need is Disney to pull out if Maryland could somehow find a whole strip of land where they can't even build the purple line.

41:59.51
J. Aundrea
We got it. We got it somewhere. It might be a worst that's that's the that's where you got to you got to contend with a bunch of ah you know rich.

42:07.74
Bruce Anthony
Um.

42:16.39
J. Aundrea
Folks that don't want that don't want public transportation access because that brings what they believe is an undesirable population. But sometimes it does sometimes it does but it's like.

42:19.11
Bruce Anthony
Nervous. And sometimes it does bring undesirable population the year densen. Yeah it sometimes it does.

42:31.97
J. Aundrea
You can't always insulate yourself from the reality of life and sometimes you need to see that undesirable population quote unquote so that you know that there is a problem out there with homelessness. There is a problem out there with our mental health facilities closing.

42:40.48
Bruce Anthony
There there.

42:50.15
Bruce Anthony
The.

42:50.54
J. Aundrea
With our shelters and missions closing that there is a problem that needs to be addressed and you can either be a part of that problem or by closing your eyes or you can be a part of the solution and so that's gonna speak to all of this stuff. You can either sit back and let your children get a Florida education.

42:57.94
Bruce Anthony
Right? well.

43:09.83
J. Aundrea
And I really hope that that becomes a pejorative like I Really hope that the idea of getting a Southern education becomes a mark against your child because and it's not your child's fault your fault for keeping your child in that school.

43:23.26
Bruce Anthony
The shareful. Well some people don't have a choice right? like it's not. It's it. Yeah, it's not you can't It's It's really expensive to just pick up a move you get.

43:27.80
J. Aundrea
But I really hope that some people don't have a choice.

43:37.16
Bruce Anthony
And and there's no guarantee that where you move to is going to have opportunities that provide that you can provide for your family so people are just stuck. It's the politicians. Let's put. Let's put the blame squarely on the politicians. But I I would be remiss if I didn't explain the book that Tele Telehisi Coats wrote.

43:44.21
J. Aundrea
Yes, politicians.

43:56.64
Bruce Anthony
Between the world and me so let me just tell you what they're banning. Of course you would have a copy. Ah I know you do so the book was published in 2015 and the book was written by him and it was written as a letter from him to his teenage son about.

43:59.35
J. Aundrea
Um I should have brought my copy you know I got a copy.

44:15.45
Bruce Anthony
His experience of being black in America and addressing racism and violence based on the skin color based on his skin color and society it explores the themes of race identity and history and it's won numerous awards. So all he's doing basically he's writing his biography that.

44:23.60
J. Aundrea
No. Um, yes, yes, just like anyone else.

44:35.17
Bruce Anthony
That's up and we did a there's a whole 3 hour movie on Oppenheimer and nobody is sitting there protesting that movie and maybe they should because he's the creator that decimated so many people.

44:39.91
J. Aundrea
M.

44:50.37
J. Aundrea
And he yes.

44:54.79
Bruce Anthony
Like there were innocent people that died and were scarred for generations because we dropped two of those bombs innocent people that had nothing to do with it now me being the history major I will tell you they were not going to give up they they.

45:06.52
J. Aundrea
And I had.

45:12.21
J. Aundrea
Who Yeah, but I don't know that we had to do that I know the yeah.

45:14.39
Bruce Anthony
That government was not going to give up. We had to do something but we didn't necessarily have to do that and we didn't necessarily have to do that and nobody is out there protesting protesting that and he he had problems with what he created because he saw.

45:33.21
J. Aundrea
Yeah I would too I made the Atomic bomb. Um.

45:33.72
Bruce Anthony
That Yeah, he saw the devastation and destruction right? right? but but we we definitely learned about him in history. Why oh he's a proud American that helped us win the war. Well okay, whatever costs all I'm saying is when you.

45:45.75
J. Aundrea
Try.

45:52.83
Bruce Anthony
Don't tell the truth about your history. You're lying to the future plain and simple. You don't tell the truth about your history you lying to your future. So.

45:57.70
J. Aundrea
Well said and so and some of this though we can blame on the children because it was kids that reported Ms woods.

46:08.21
Bruce Anthony
Yes, it was I and I'm it's too well too often adults Dismiss children as as not being smart enough.

46:13.37
J. Aundrea
Trying to get out of an assignment.

46:23.71
Bruce Anthony
Because they think of themselves as children I have a friend of mine. She's sixty years old she thinks of herself as a child and she was we'll get into it next obedient right? like she didn't really question things and these kids nowadays question everything I just saw in the news earlier today that a gen zer created an app.

46:34.39
J. Aundrea
And and um, um.

46:43.43
Bruce Anthony
To teach Gen Zers about finance. Beautiful idea. It should actually be a class taught in high school. But yeah.

46:49.63
J. Aundrea
Yeah, ah yes, we have We have all said that Yes, the fact that they don't teach basic finance as a required course in this country. Just lets you know that they want capitalism.

47:03.81
Bruce Anthony
Yeah, yes, ah what's my girl Greta Greta Thornberg is that her name. Okay, people are often talking about. She didn't know what she's talking about her parents are putting her up to this no young greta is informed and is intelligent.

47:06.11
J. Aundrea
To suffocate and drown you Yes, yes.

47:19.70
J. Aundrea
And.

47:20.41
Bruce Anthony
And this idea that this these young kids are not smarter than we were at their age is ridiculous now. Do they do some dumb stuff like drinking typods. Yeah I don't don't I don't get it but my generation would put vodka in a syringe and shoot it up.

47:31.00
J. Aundrea
Do my. Yeah know, nobody's nobody is that smart except let's set millennials. Yeah, where we're we're We're not Dumb. We're traumatized. There's a difference.

47:37.42
Bruce Anthony
So we you every generation does something stupid I preface all a day when and I I'm man. Okay, but so I don't want to.

47:54.49
J. Aundrea
Yeah.

47:56.74
Bruce Anthony
Disrespect their intelligence I will say they might have not gotten this idea strictly from themselves. This has been a a growing theme but this has been a growing What what I mean by that is this has been a growing theme throughout the last couple of years.

47:57.42
J. Aundrea
M.

48:07.89
J. Aundrea
Um, oh I think they did.

48:14.49
J. Aundrea
Bring.

48:15.93
Bruce Anthony
Of parents saying don't want to traumatize our kids and make them feel guilty would they have felt guilty if their parents hadn't put that in if parents weren't out there saying that you think so I think I think that.

48:28.83
J. Aundrea
Yeah, there are there are there are children. There are children who grow up in racist Households who internalize that? Yeah, but ah, but but at what point.

48:33.32
Bruce Anthony
You just that. But once again it was their parents that put it in their head right? It wasn't their natural thoughts.

48:43.94
J. Aundrea
Are you? This is a high school a P English class at what point are you responsible. It was a p class. It was a p yeah at what point are you responsible for developing your own sort of ideology.

48:45.11
Bruce Anthony
I It it might be a p and it was a p Okay, okay.

48:59.72
Bruce Anthony
I don't think I developed my own ideology until I became ah an adult and when and when I say adult not 18 like well I did but there were still elements of my parents' teachings that were still prevalent.

49:05.96
J. Aundrea
I definitely had I definitely had an ideology at 16 near.

49:16.26
Bruce Anthony
And me um, until I got to my late 20 s and until I started being like well wait a minute hold up I don't know that necessarily believe in that and it took a while it took a while because there's a question of respect and obedience.

49:25.00
J. Aundrea
Yeah.

49:30.93
J. Aundrea
Stop by that next.

49:41.80
Bruce Anthony
Speaking of respect and obedience there was a Tick Tock that I saw on you know in the airwaves out there in the streets that thought was important. Ah, oh.

49:41.97
J. Aundrea
And.

49:50.30
J. Aundrea
Yeah again, no one's in the streets. No one. The streets are empty because the student because the block is hot.

49:57.45
Bruce Anthony
Well, the block is hot but let me let me let me play this Oh God of course of course my phone is messing up all right here. We go here we go I can't get the sound to come on. This is ridiculous.

50:10.35
J. Aundrea
Ah, here.

50:16.94
Bruce Anthony
This is ridiculous. Not now no I'm getting old now. No I'm getting old because I can't get to okay hold on hold on I got it Ladies Gentlemen move some technical difficulties but I finally and I got you know I didn't get it hey.

50:17.36
J. Aundrea
Waiting? Yeah now how do a work with.

50:30.59
Bruce Anthony
Yeah, just written I just got scolded by a younger gentleman at the public library for wearing my hat and I really wish I caught this on camera so he worked by me and he told me that is very disrespectful to wear my hat inside asked him What does.

50:31.26
J. Aundrea
Um, struggling.

50:49.73
Bruce Anthony
Being respectful mean to you. He looked very puzzled I said I have my 3 year old over there like how would I explain to him what it means to be respectful and he said well following the rules and obviously there's no rule about wearing a hat. The library I said well following the rules that would be obedience not respect right? You also same thing you have to respect your elders and so well what do you mean by that again, he looked very puzzled. He said well if they tell you what's disrespectful to take your hat off, you take your hat off. Again, it sounds like you're describing obedience not respect as of respect to me is to be kind and understanding of other people after that I just introduced myself and I shook his hand and I said I really like. Have a nice day and he left and it was fine. This is the perfect example of the difference between authoritarian parenting and conscious parenting authoritarian parenting confuses respect and obedience and to follow rules for the sake. Ah, following rules and often those rules are based on what preferences see not logic. So I'm trying to teach my son and challenge that's okay, just that is courtesy of Sandy was nisy a stress coast stretch stress coach that you can find on Tiktok.

52:10.51
Bruce Anthony
I Found that very very interesting because um we I think me and you have often questioned had that question and not frame it as respect Verse obedience like specifically say respect versus obedience because we talk about our parents.

52:11.90
J. Aundrea
Um.

52:23.58
J. Aundrea
And.

52:29.43
Bruce Anthony
And 1 of mom's favorite line was do what I say not as I do and I was like well that's that's obedience that's not necessarily respect. Respect would be ah tell me why you want me to do this and why you don't do it and if you say well.

52:35.57
J. Aundrea
Um, yeah.

52:47.65
Bruce Anthony
My room's mess because I work all day and when I come home. The last thing I want to do is clean up the room because I have to cook for you feed you guys get you guys ready for bed help you with ever homework that you have to do and I'm tired whereas all you have to do is eat sleep. Go to school and play.

52:59.51
J. Aundrea
Silver.

53:06.32
Bruce Anthony
That's the reason why I want you to clean your room and why my room might not be clean I might be like you know what kind of got a point because I don't want to be out here paying no bills. Ah, but once again parenting is tiring. You got a job. You don't want to explain stuff. But.

53:07.33
J. Aundrea
Um.

53:15.34
J. Aundrea
Um, right.

53:19.62
J. Aundrea
Yeah.

53:25.22
Bruce Anthony
Think kids can grow from something like that if people think kids are stupid. Kids are stupid if you talk to them. Yeah, you you could talk, you could talk to them not quite like an adult but you could talk to them and now they could they could figure things out and put things together and be like oh because kids will question you real fast if things don't make sense.

53:29.18
J. Aundrea
Kids are not dumb.

53:37.89
J. Aundrea
Yeah, yes, very quickly. They'll hit you with that. Why you just gonna keep asking that after I give explanation a half ask explanation.

53:45.78
Bruce Anthony
Right.

53:53.73
Bruce Anthony
Um, right? yeah.

53:57.20
J. Aundrea
You know that was a that was a very boomer interaction and yes I'm one of those millennials that don't like boomers. Um, it's a very. It's a very boomer thing to say to conflate ah obedience with respect. Um.

54:02.58
Bruce Anthony
F.

54:14.84
J. Aundrea
Again I'm nobody's parent but I am somebody's child so I can always speak to parenting from that perspective and. I'mma Be honest I'm not I'm not going to be that kind of parent that teaches my child to be blindly obedient I think we had a really good. We had a very interesting. My parents had a very interesting parenting style where they did teach us. To find out the information for ourselves to question things to find our own path but they still also had that kind of old school very much just do what I say because I said so and even though you're confused as to the why behind your what you're doing.

54:49.74
Bruce Anthony
But.

54:55.22
Bruce Anthony
If.

55:00.69
Bruce Anthony
E.

55:00.76
J. Aundrea
They feel like that's not something you need to know you need to just do what I said because I am telling you but I'm like but you also told me to question things. So I'm really kind of confused about the messaging I'm receiving. Um, but I saw this great Tiktok and it was.

55:08.89
Bruce Anthony
Writes.

55:20.40
J. Aundrea
What is the one ah very unserious generational thing that you're not doing with your children and it was it was specifically black people answering this but it was pretty much open to anybody and ah, a lot of them were. Things like I do have Mcdonald's money if mine like you know I do have Mcdonald's money and we can go to Mcdonald's is that's what you want like we I am not going to tell you no just for the sake of telling you no if I don't have to no I'm not going to wake my kids up.

55:37.83
Bruce Anthony
If.

55:49.39
Bruce Anthony
And.

55:55.62
J. Aundrea
Early on Saturday morning to do chores that can be done in the afternoon I'm gonna let them get some sleep the same way I would like some sleep after working all week yeah my children worked all week also they went to school for much longer than I was at work.

56:02.52
Bruce Anthony
U.

56:09.23
Bruce Anthony
How do you feel how you feel about making the bed leave the do I right.

56:15.75
J. Aundrea
Um I don't make my bed and guess what my bills are still Paid. So I don't understand I Yeah I Think if it's your room. Um, within reason you know I think it's important to teach. Children to have respect for their own things. But these are your these are your things you should want to keep them in good condition. Um, my room might not be the cleanest but the rest of my house is because that's me hurt me personally as an adult.

56:33.44
Bruce Anthony
Um, yes up. Yes.

56:43.62
Bruce Anthony
You talking about you personally as an adult right now men you the exact same because the rest of my house on point bedroom. It's disaster. That's.

56:51.31
J. Aundrea
Yeah I keep my mess. Yeah I keep my mess in my room. Yeah, there are still folded clean clothes on one side of my bed and I sleep on the other side that is the whole point. Yes.

57:03.60
Bruce Anthony
You and mom do that I can't I don't fold the clothes they stay in the basket. The clean clothes come out of the dryer go in a basket I got 2 baskets I got a clean hamper and a dry hamper because I'm not folding the clothes.

57:08.79
J. Aundrea
No.

57:18.67
J. Aundrea
Yeah, like it's just at no I folded the clothes they're ready to go in the drawer. They just have not been put in the drawer yet. Um and I won't sleep on the other half in a bed and be fine and be just fine.

57:20.70
Bruce Anthony
That That's a that's a point I can't understand that one but ok.

57:35.71
J. Aundrea
Um, but yeah, just things like that. That's just so ah so unserious and for what reason you know and and this idea of of blind obedience for the sake of being obedient is the same. It's in the same vein of saying no just for the sake of saying no.

57:50.61
Bruce Anthony
I will say because we're not parents. There's an element that I don't think that we think about a lot and I think it's about you know when I talk to parents. It's just like I I know if I was a parent I would be a helicopter parent. Because I'd be so nervous and scared that they would hurt themselves and I think a lot of the things a lot of things that our parents did was just so that we wouldn't hurt ourselves and it was just like don't do this? do this.? Don't do this because you're gonna end up hurting yourself.

58:13.56
J. Aundrea
Um.

58:17.42
J. Aundrea
Yeah. M.

58:23.77
Bruce Anthony
And and that's got to be a legitimate fear I'm not a parent but if I had a kid that would be a legitimate fear like look they not going to go on the not the Monkey bars the seesaw the kids ain't going on no seesaw. That's that's how fingers get chopped off you get to know.

58:36.20
J. Aundrea
That's when they cut when they cut. No your fingers are not gonna get chopped off and it's it ist the old merry go round. Yes is that's literally the.

58:40.50
Bruce Anthony
They're not going on. Ah, what's the merry go round if what't call the the merry roundund but that still that's still contraption merit. No my kid is not playing on that they're gonna knock out all they front teeth.

58:53.70
J. Aundrea
You're literally taking away the funnest the 2 funest things at the park that is insane. You could just you could just ride that you could just ride those things with them. You can ride the seesaw with them or get on the meic or no I want my kids get.

58:54.75
Bruce Anthony
Then they'll be safe though. They'll be safe. They want to ride a bike. No prom I could.

59:10.42
Bruce Anthony
Now Let's see you you and our brother almost died several times out there in him street but several times almost maybe maybe mom and dad had it right? Maybe they had it right? Maybe they should have been strict and we should have been more obedient.

59:11.99
J. Aundrea
Skin your knees and others that those care almost is the the operative word is almost almost so he is.

59:29.83
Bruce Anthony
Because we almost died several times.

59:32.60
J. Aundrea
But they were great ideas and they were cool ideas if I could have executed them Well they would have been epic I Just the execution was poor on a lot of these things is what you and bringing.

59:43.78
Bruce Anthony
That's like me there was no execution for me to tell my brother and a wrestling match to have a deck wrestling match and the winner of the wrestling match is as the person that throws the other person off the deck and the deck is fifteen feet in there. And I tell them you gonna win this match. You throw me off the deck I'm six fifteen years old I could have blew out my knee.

01:00:04.27
J. Aundrea
Yeah, ah yeah, again, it's execution. Ah, you should have had some cushions down below some some that could help you you know like if we had had a trampoline. We didn't grow up. We weren't trampoline kids we didn't have trampoline growing up. But if we had.

01:00:10.46
Bruce Anthony
Should have not kids down trampoline every day.

01:00:22.12
J. Aundrea
That would have been a great thing to have just under there. Ah you know it's execution. Kids don't That's not a real statistic. You can't just throw that out there. It no.

01:00:31.57
Bruce Anthony
But they well kids down trampolines every day be no, but seriously ah respect is different than obedience and people need to learn that and I hope my generation.

01:00:42.56
J. Aundrea
Yes.

01:00:49.67
Bruce Anthony
Whatever generation I'm in I don't know if I'm Gen x or a millennial it goes back and forth I want to claim millennial more than gen x um I'm on. Um I right there on that border. But I think you know when I talk to my friends and their kids. They're just good parents. They're good parents.

01:00:59.87
J. Aundrea
You're on the cusp. Let's just say that.

01:01:05.51
J. Aundrea
Yeah, yeah.

01:01:08.26
Bruce Anthony
And I think this generation is learning from the last generation not like the last generation was bad. The last generation was better than the generation before that.

01:01:18.19
J. Aundrea
Yeah, but I mean a lot of us Gen X and millennials have Boomer parents and we made we're making a lot of different decisions than our parents made um and a lot of that is.

01:01:27.55
Bruce Anthony
Um, clear.

01:01:34.79
J. Aundrea
Is including you know we're not just going to give respect to Elders simply because you got old because God willing That's where all of us are going end up and that doesn't confer any kind of respect like that doesn't give you anything.

01:01:46.74
Bruce Anthony
Oh. And yeah.

01:01:52.00
J. Aundrea
Additional just because you got old. Well 100% of us. You know we all gonna go sometime like none of us are gonna make it out of here laugh. Okay, not all of us are gonna get old but that doesn't give you any extra anything.

01:01:56.80
Bruce Anthony
Okay, yeah, we okay right? but not all of us get old. You know, get all right.

01:02:10.83
J. Aundrea
Just because you lived longer than I did like I'm I'm not gonna if my child don't want to give you a hug She don't have to he doesn't have to um, like there's a little things that you were kind of forced to do that. We remember.

01:02:10.89
Bruce Anthony
Right. Now.

01:02:27.88
J. Aundrea
No, that made me uncomfortable or no I never liked that I'm not going to force my kids to do the same type of things. So yes, true I see my my friends as parents and I'm like y'all are good. Y'all are great parents y'all are really out here doing it.

01:02:30.74
Bruce Anthony
Um, thank you? no.

01:02:43.10
J. Aundrea
It's not me, but maybe one day yeah

01:02:45.65
Bruce Anthony
Um, maybe one day and and this is what I will say to to finish off what you're saying about age does not guarantee you respect I naturally give everybody respect.

01:02:57.86
J. Aundrea
Yes.

01:02:58.46
Bruce Anthony
Initially I give respect and until there's a time to be disrespectful if there's no reason for me to be disrespectful I am always respectful I won't hesitate.

01:03:05.10
J. Aundrea
M.

01:03:14.61
J. Aundrea
I'll cus a old lady out I don't have brahm with that. Yeah, but but I listen you can get you can get.

01:03:16.83
Bruce Anthony
I won't hesitate to cuss anybody I I'll cuss anybody suffer suffer my mama and my daddy I won't I won't cut them out I won't and if my grandparents were still alive I wouldn't cut them out neither.

01:03:30.32
J. Aundrea
You can get it just like anybody else if you come at me if you come at me wrong or reckless you can get it just like anybody else. Okay, my mom was well opportunity I will cuss anybody out I don't give a damn.

01:03:31.70
Bruce Anthony
To. Look Jay I was just getting ready to ask I was just getting ready. Ask you what he want to say to the people out there but that was it you you could get it just like anybody else I hold do it one more time. Ja.

01:03:47.51
J. Aundrea
That was it you you can get it just like anybody else. My mouth is equal opportunity day I will cuss you out out in down up out I don't give damn what it is.

01:03:55.38
Bruce Anthony
What you? what? tell the people out there.

01:04:06.45
J. Aundrea
Inside out, you can get it just like anybody else. Period.

01:04:10.39
Bruce Anthony
And on that note as always our holler.
